EASUN Centre for Organizational Learning, in collaboration with Rebuild Her Uganda, is organizing a Transformational Leadership Training for women’s rights an empowerment. The training will take place at Lweza Training and Conference Centre, Kampala, Uganda, from 4–6
November 2026.
Strengthening Leadership for Justice and Social Transformation
The training seeks to strengthen the leadership capacities of women-led organizations and organizations working to advance women’s rights and empowerment. It will create space for participants to build confidence, deepen self-awareness, develop practical leadership skills, and take proactive leadership initiatives in their organizations and communities.
EASUN recognizes that transformational leadership begins with self-awareness and the ability of leaders to consciously engage with the realities within their organizations, communities, and wider contexts. Women continue to lead important initiatives for justice and social
transformation, yet many face both internal and external challenges that can affect their leadership. These may include insecurities, limited opportunities for leadership development, social expectations, and resistance shaped by gender norms and power dynamics.
Although policies and laws promoting gender equality and equity have been developed across East Africa, their implementation continues to face significant challenges. Persistent social norms and traditional understandings of gender roles can influence who is given opportunities to lead and how women in leadership are perceived. Women leaders may also experience heightened expectations, scrutiny, and stereotypes, with challenges within their organizations or communities sometimes interpreted through the lens of their gender.
Creating Space for Deeper Leadership Reflection
Leadership is not shaped only by external structures. Leaders can also respond to situations through unconscious patterns influenced by personal experiences, social conditioning, assumptions, and unresolved internal dynamics. When these patterns remain unexamined, they can limit a leader’s ability to respond consciously and adaptively to complex situations.
This training therefore uses a reflective and experiential learning approach, creating space for participants to explore their own leadership experiences, deepen self-awareness, engage in critical reflection, and strengthen their capacity for constructive action.
Through the learning process, women and men leaders will have opportunities to examine their leadership practices, strengthen their confidence, and develop practical skills for engaging constructively within their organizations, communities, and civic spaces.
The training will also focus on transformative facilitation skills that can help leaders engage with disempowering practices, relationships, structures, and forms of leadership, while creating conditions that support dialogue, participation, and positive change.
Expected Outcomes
- Knowledge and awareness of women’s and men’s leaders on the significance of women’s leadership in nurturing thriving communities will be enhanced.
- Transformative values and practical skills for addressing oppressive gender relations and promoting positive change in communities will be strengthened.
- Networking and collaboration capacities among leaders of women’s organizations working on gender-based violence and violence against children will be strengthened.
